At that moment, when the sanctuary had once again become silent and solitary, I discovered the richness of the cosmatesque pavements: a radiant polyphony of forms, of colors – serpentine green, porphyry red, antique yellow – decorations reminiscent of Oriental rugs. I’ve always enjoyed photographing them, fragmenting them with my eyes like a never- ending puzzle: each decorative motif, each detail isolated by the lens creates wonder. Wonder! What a strange impression: inert matter comes to life in the form of vegetation, spheres, stars, geometric cutouts: the miracle of bringing together  the startled eye and the lens to isolate in space and time a fragment of reality.
